Anna Belly Doula

About Me

I am a native Californian and have spent all but the first 8 years of my life living in San Francisco. I love this City and the wonderful diversity of people it attracts. I began caring for children here when I was still a child myself and developed an early and lasting passion for protecting and nurturing our babies and little kids.

The transition from babysitting to a professional career in child care was a natural one. As a full-time day nanny, I developed a profound respect for integrating and adapting to the needs of a particular family and gained a well-stocked toolbox for meeting the daily challenges of working in the home. I enjoyed 20+ years of work as a nanny and still keep in touch with some of my former clients.

I became interested in becoming a postpartum doula after the birth of my first child. I was so in love with my own baby and became completely fascinated by how each newborn is so unique and demanding of special attention. I take pride in being able to provide that attention and care, and now that I am a mother of three, I have developed a much fuller understanding of  the needs of the whole family during the critical postpartum phase. I really love my work and the opportunity it gives me to make a real difference in people’s lives.

I took both birth and postpartum training from Natural Resources in San Francisco. I also completed postpartum doula training from DONA International. As a postpartum doula I am always looking to continue my education to better support my clients. I took an intensive training course from UCSD Extension and became and certified Lactation Educator.

My role is to provide non medical fact based information about newborn care, maternal recovery and lactation support. As a Lactation Educator I use my training to help families learn to breastfeed with confidence and ease. My experience includes caring for infants and first time parents, infants with toddler siblings, twins, special needs and ill babies and toddlers, birthing mothers and mothers with special health concerns.

When I am not caring for other’s kids, I am caring for my own family and looking for fun things to do and good food to eat. We take frequent trips to Lake Tahoe to visit Auntie Boo and Uncle Mark to enjoy their cooking and their beautiful place on the river. I have been a periodic volunteer and avid fan of the SF Opera since I was in high school and I love the new summer simulcasts they have been doing at AT&T Park. I get pedicures whenever I can and look forward to girls’ night out to check out a new restaurant or relax at an old favorite.
